Fact which I share with all family members: He is my favourite patrilineal uncle. Some while back, the Israelis allowed him to leave Gaza, and come to Cairo.
Since last I saw him, 15 years ago when the Israelis granted me entry into the Gaza Strip, my grandmother has passed, but remains alive in his face, all light and kindness.
When he greeted me last night, and tucked me into his arms, I sobbed. For well over five minutes, I could not find my breath or legs and he held me together.
My summer heart, harmed and wounded so deeply, she is healing.
Today, I am grateful for:
1. Cantaloupe.
2. Family dinners.
3. Quiet beaches.
