The Brother-In-Law

This is Omar, my brother-in-law. Somewhat of a big brother, too. He is, without a doubt, one of the kindest and love-full men I have ever met.

Omar and me only met in January, when I spent two weeks with him and Reemo in the UAE. It was an instant ease of fit, because of his character. He makes everyone around him feel so light, like nothing is ever a burden. No request you can make, no need of yours, no want is ever turned down or huffed at or bringing forth a hint of unwanted obligation. Rather, and because he is a man of such addab and character, he would in fact literally give you the shirt off his back if you just FELT like you wanted him to do so, and he would make you feel like you were doing him a favour. Really, it’s a talent.

I have repeatedly said this to anyone whenever I have spoken of Omar – he is one of a kind; a man so distinct in both behaviour and character, I sometimes wonder how he is a product of this world. And then I remember that men like him are what might make this world a better place.

Today, I am grateful for:
1. Zeina, my friend and aunt (who just happens to be married to my uncle). She teaches ESL to newly arrived refugees, and today she invited us along with them to Waterton Lakes National Parks. The Canadian Rockies are really something to behold. (Photos over this way on instagram.)
2. Horses. We saw them all along the two hour drive today, and they really are so breathtaking. Last time I was here, exactly two years ago, there were three particular horses for which we pulled over that I might pet them. I found the ranch, but not them. I hope that they are okay.
3. Well-behaved children. Because holy shit when I have to deal with children that are not well-behaved.
