Damnation, I thought I would post first.
OFC, thank you for the reading recommendations. I purchased “In the Footsteps of the Prophet”. Ramadan is a gifted writer. The passages in which he describes the prophet’s seeming struggle with his sanity when first approached by Gabriel are mesmerizing. I am glad I resisted my typical ‘know-it-all’ impulse, and did not purchase a copy of the Quran in the first instance.
Regretably, I have so little optimism as far as the “Birthday Boy” is concerned. Being wed to the tripartite policy of Dimona, US dollars, and support of the apocalyptic sect of the born-again Christians, even from a purely selfish perspective, seems shortsighted.

Just a quick note on Israel’s relationship with the dispensationalist US ‘Christians’: John Hagee, that repulsive tub of lard, supporter of McCain (and vice versa) has published a book in which he argues that a preemptive, military confrontation with Iran is necessary to fulfill end time, biblical prophecy. (To be honest, I rely on others’ reading of the tract, as I could not likely stomach it. That is one of my faults.) In short, Hagee and his ilk wish to initiate Armageddon, so that the US and Israel can take their rightful place in the post-apocalyptical future, whatever that may be. I am not naive, and understand that politics requires forming alliances with people and parties not necessarily of the highest repute. But to get into bed with someone who advocates the nuclear destruction of your neighborhood, and the world, approaches the pathological.

maria, if you go to globalsecurity.org and type Dimona into the search function it will give you a nice summary. Dimona is the nuclear research facility in Israel. The Israelis like to intimate that it is their collective suicide vest if things go badly for them militarily in the future.

I’ve been keeping a close eye on the primaries in the USA (as have many many people) and apart from the discussion of above (that Hagee is some piece of work – WOW!) I can’t help but giggle when random ‘white’ America gets pissed at the thought of Obama winning. MIND YOU, he’s not all he’s cracked up to be, either, and he’s not so damn great – but short of refusing them all…he’s the lesser of the evils. I think what I have found impressive, is that he believes what he says – or, at least, he believes more of what he says than the others 😉
